Time Management Tips for Personal Trainers
As a PT managing your time is vital. If you’re not careful, it can run away with you and destroy everything you have trained so hard for!
Not only will you be filling your diary with client training sessions, you will also be responsible for the administrative side of your business.
These include:
- Producing health assessments for your clients
- Creating fitness programmes
- Researching new techniques
- Marketing and promoting your business
So, how do you properly manage your time?
Here are a few tips.
Checking emails and messages
Unless you’re waiting for something urgent to come through, check your inbox twice a day.
First thing in the morning and later in the afternoon.
Sometimes a short phone call can cut the time it takes to respond to a message or email.
Use a to-do list
If you don’t write down what needs to be done, how are you going to remember it?
Keep a diary close by, or make use of the calendar on your phone.
Plan ahead
PTs will often use the free time they have in the evening or over the weekend to forward plan. This will give you mental clarity and ownership of the week and days ahead.
Get rid of the most challenging task first
If you know that creating fitness programmes or producing a health assessment takes you the longest amount of time, carry this task out first thing in the morning. You usually have the most amount of energy earlier in the day, so it makes sense to tackle your bigger tasks when you’re not drained. Also, that feeling of accomplishment will keep you motivated for the rest of the day.
